RCEF launches new way to learn rice

The Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) is set to launch a new online learning platform on the RCEF Extension Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/RCEFEx) on March 8. Called RCEF PalayAralan, the program will be a magazine-type show for online farmer-viewers with topics on rice production, rice machines, and RCEF services in seed distribution, credit, machinery, and training. Segments will be in the form of “Rice Balita,” which reports news and updates; “Rice Chikahan,” which highlights an expert who will answer live questions from the viewers, “Palay Idol,” which features farmers’ success stories, and “Alam mo ba Rice” that shares interesting and relevant trivia. Dr. Karen Eloisa Barroga, Rice Extension Services Program (RESP) vice chair, said the new platform is an improved programming of PalayAralan of the Philippine Rice Research Institute and the Palaywakin Ang Galing of RESP. “RCEF PalayAralan is just one of the initiatives in which we can showcase the convergence of RCEF services,” Barroga said. RCEF PalayAralan will air one episode per month in collaboration with PhilRice, Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization, Agricultural Training Institute, and Technical Education And Skills Development Authority. RCEF was created through Republic Act 11203 or Rice Tariffication Law (RTL), which aims to improve the competitiveness of rice farmers and increase their income through the provision of seed, mechanization, extension, and credit services. The DA-PhilRice, DA-PHilMech, ATI, TESDA, Land Bank, and the Development Bank of the Philippines implement the program’s components.
